Cable Card Connectivity for your Media Center Computer - Its Finally Coming to a PC Near You!

Well, its official, we’re finally taking a BIG step in the right direction with Windows Media Center 2005 PCs.  Microsoft announced an agreement with CableLabs which is the first of hopefully many agreements to come that will allow us to throw away those set top cable boxes and make it a heck of a lot easier to setup and configure Media Center PC’s for our customers if the set top boxes are out of the way.  For more information on this press release, use the hyperlinked title below.

Microsoft and CableLabs Announce Agreement to Enable High-Definition Digital Cable Programming on Windows-Based PCs

Get a FREE SBS 2003 Administrator's Companion Book and Eval Copy for your Customers!

Thanks to Russell Clements from the DFW SBS Partner Usergroup for bringing this to my attention!   You can get a FREE copy of the Small Business Server 2003 Administrator's Companion Book and a Small Business Server 2003 Trial edition for them to evaluation just by registering for it on the Microsoft Website. (Click Here for Details).

This book is one of the Microsoft Press titles and it retails for $59.95, so is definetly worth the 2 minutes it takes to fill out the shipping information for the promotion.

Russell asked if this was something for the Partner Community or is it just for the customers, and my gut feeling says it's for the customers.  I'm checking into it with the marketing teams, but I'm 95% certain it was intended for your customers.  Granted, you need to know exactly what the customers will be receiving so ordering one for yourself.  Peter Gallagher from the SBS Product Support team in Las Colinas checked with the Product Manager and confirmed this is a legit offer.

I filled out the registration page and it said I should have the Evaluation kit in 4-6 weeks.  Let me know if anyone else has taken advantage of this offer and what your thoughts were on it.
