Good News for System Builders and OEMs - Change in Office 2007 Licensing
Yesterday (Tuesday) at the Worldwide Partner Conference, Chris Capossela announced a new licensing initiative that makes it easier for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system builders to configure and ship computers with the Microsoft Office system. Under the new Microsoft Office Ready program, OEMs and system builders will be able to pre-install and sell Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, which was previously sold only at retail. They also can provide their customers with a free 60-day trial on new computers, and they can reap the rewards of those trials by selling licenses after the computer purchase.
