Is Virtualization an Enabler or a Solution?

I read this blog by Doug de Werd, and he makes a good point.  Check it out:

This means aligning your IT strategies to your business strategies. Ultimately it’s not about how many virtual guests you can run on a physical host, or how cool your underlying infrastructure is – it’s about using these technologies to achieve better business outcomes.

This is a very good statement.  It's not about who has more options, or who has the "coolest" options.  It's more about do the options meet you true needs?  Remember when I talked about Best of Breed?   This is the same kind of point...  Are we talking about tools with the most features, or tools that have the most useful features.  There's no reason to add a feature or function if it doesn't meet a business need.  Virtualization in itself does not meet many business' needs, but Virtualization can help you cut costs in increase agility.

It's nice to hear these thoughts from someone that works for HP.  He does a good job of laying out how HP and Microsoft have partnered along with Citrix to continue to improve the eco-system.

I hope you can take a few minutes to read this article, he makes some very good points.

Until next time!
